About the voices

The recorded voice is a set of small audio files served from your own server — one pack per language, so it sounds identical on every device and works offline. It's the recommended choice.

The others are iPadOS's built-in voices. Two things are worth knowing about them:

1. Siri's voice cannot be used by a web page at all — Apple doesn't expose it, so however good the Siri voice sounds elsewhere on the iPad, no website can reach it.
2. The ones a web page can reach are the low-quality "compact" versions by default. Settings → Accessibility → Spoken Content → Voices, then tap ⬇︎ on a voice to download its Enhanced or Premium version. It'll appear above marked "better".
